On their third trip to the New World, Columbus ships touched the coasts of Paria (today known as Venezuela), on August 3rd 1498. On the same day, the explorers planted the Spanish flag, during an act presided by Captain Pedro Tarrero, in which they took possession of the newfound land in the name of their King and Queen. Visas: U.S., Canadian, Australia, New Zealand and many other citizens of western and Scandinavian countries do not need visas if they fly directly to Venezuela.
Tourist Bureaus: There are Tourist Bureaus in most states, however, the main office is headquartered in Caracas.
