The capital of this state, Barquisimeto, is a modern city, and is the fourth largest in population. It is a center of communications, industry and agriculture for the central-western region of Venezuela.
It has been called "the city of sunsets", for the spectacular beauty of its early evenings. It is also called "Venezuela's musical capital", for its numerous musicians and cultural expressions.
